A series of conversations about love  for a Valentine's day special

Love is a complex and beautiful emotion that takes many forms. On Valentine's Day, we take a moment to celebrate the different types of love that bring joy and fulfillment to our lives. To celebrate this special occasion, we spoke with different inspiring women from our community to learn about their passions and the love they have for them. Love for nature is the last episode from this series. You can read the others here

Valentine's Day is a time to celebrate love, and for Guillermina García-Avila that love extends beyond just relationships with others. She has a deep and unwavering love for nature, which she expresses through her breathtaking illustrations. As an artist inspired by the beauty of the natural world, Guillermina has a unique love story.

Guillermina, also known as Guille Pistache is a nature illustrator. She is originally from Mexico City and through her illustrations inspired by 18th-century naturalist prints, she seeks to put nature as the main character in her work.

She started making these types of illustrations in early 2017 as part of an extracurricular subject in her design and visual communication studies. "If I think about it, I'm surprised I didn't start illustrating nature earlier. For as long as I can remember I've loved documentaries that talk about animals and the environment, and as a child, I had a large collection of illustrated encyclopedias that fascinated me."

Since her childhood, Guille considers Nature as something of great value. "Since I was a child I was taught that we have to love it, respect it and protect it as part of our family. This is a thought that is part of the pillars of my life and that I try to reflect in my day to day life."

Environmental problems and climate change have resulted in the extinction and threat of several species globally. And with these problems intensifying day by day, she shows in her illustrations native or endangered species beautifully done in watercolor.

Guillermina told us "I think it's important to show the natural treasures that exist in every place, otherwise, how can we appreciate it if we don't know it exists. For me it is a way to pay tribute and talk about how important it is to live a sustainable life".

Thanks Guillermina for sharing your story and for you stunning work, which is also  a reminder of the importance of preserving and appreciating the wonders of our planet.  As we continue to celebrate Valentine's Day, let's take a moment to appreciate the love that surrounds us, both in our relationships with others and in the natural world.
