International Creative Women • Oct 01, 2019

Sheetal Kale won the 1st baking contest past September 6th at the event "Let's Keep the Summer Vibe" in Eindhoven.

5 participants showed their baking skills with delicious cakes. Attendees had the chance to taste the cakes and vote for their favorite. The two juries also evaluated the cakes and one cake stood out as the very best: The Raspberry cake from Sheetal.

Sheetal received a beautiful handmade apron; a great gift package with products from Sligro, a stall in our next event and the happy faces of the people after testing her cake.

We want to thank all the bakers for participating, the people who tried the cakes and vote, Sligro for the beautiful gift and a big thank to the Jury: Milagros and Tanita!

Sheetal is another creative women who started a business in Eindhoven.  We talked to Sheetal few days after the contest to know more about her and her  business : Memories Cake studio.

Enjoy!

ICW. Sheetal tell us more about you? Where are you from , when did you come to the Netherlands
Sheetal Kale: I am from India. 2008 was a year of big changes for me. I left my country, my people, my job and joined my husband here in Holland. We arrived to Utrecht and 2 years ago we moved to Eindhoven, because my husband got a job in ASML.
Our initial plan was to explore Europe as locals and head back to India. Well, as you can already see, it did not work out that way. New house, kids and their school kept us so busy that we didn’t realize how 10 years have passed.

ICW: What did you do back in India?
SK: I was full time graphic designer back in India. My attempts to find a job in The Netherlands ended in failure. It was difficult due to 2008 economic crisis and also because of the language barrier. By the time I grasped local culture and language, I was a full time Mom. And that is a heavy job... especially when you have two notorious kids who always agree to disagree. I am sure many moms will agree with me!

ICW:  We know how hard and rewarding is being a full time mom! so How did you start your business and why baking?
SK: Being Indian, we spent lot of time in the kitchen. My idea was when you are spending so much time in kitchen then make the most of it, so rather than cooking regular meals I started exploring new dishes, new ways, new ingredients.... this is where I gave third birth to my Passion for Baking.

I was always looking for gorgeous and delicious cakes to celebrate special occasions. One day i decided to try to make my own cakes for my kids birthday, guests loved them. Then I started to make a few cakes for friends and family. After receiving positive feedback I thought I can turn my passion for baking into a business, so I created my business one year ago. Memories Cake studio gives me a lot of satisfaction; I can combine my baking and designing skills.

ICW: Sheetal how did you get in contact with us ?

SK: I saw the cake contest on Facebook. I decided to Join, saw the events you make and get to know better the community. As a newbie in this business, I need help to grow in the market. With the help of International creative women’s cake contest, I tried to show my talent and to reach people. Thanks to your team for this opportunity.

ICW What is the most difficult part of starting a business in Eindhoven. Any advice for women starting a business in The Netherlands?

SK: Not only in Eindhoven, I think everywhere; For me the most difficult part is the marketing of the business and to make good contacts. My advice to other women is to be patient and always do your best.

Thanks Sheetal and welcome to the community!!
