ROHO YA AFRIKA

ROHO YA AFRIKA

Cindy Knox

Cindy has encapsulated her giraffe in a metal that is one of South Africa's top 10 exported metal materials, Aluminium with the aid of copper and brass to deliver diversity in materials used.

The encapsulation is done to try and immortalise the animal and signify the value of wildlife and, show how precious and extraordinary life really is. She uses the Giraffes body to tell a story of the beauty of South African patterns, daily life, animal life, nature reserves and parks. The material used to build this Giraffe is recyclable and will dissolve in time like real-life animals, shows you how quickly it can all disappear.

Currently, their population numbers have declined by 40% in the last 30 years. There are 4 distinct species of Giraffes: Northern Giraffe, Southern Giraffe, Masai Giraffe and Reticulated Giraffe.

Soon they will only be seen mounted or to be studied.

Cindy Knox is a Graphic Designer of 20 years who chooses to express her passion by embossing and etching metal sheets into art, she believes that art should be touched and felt not just seen.
