CYANOTYPE PRINTING

Cyanotype is a photographic printing method that produces prints with a distinctive and gorgeous Prussian-blue colour. The process was developed in 1842 and in 1843 Anna Atkins merged art and science to publish the first book with photographs using this technique: “Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions”.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

This workshop combines science, photography, art, and creativity in beautiful blue tones. We will start by understanding the process behind this technique, then we will discuss the variety of materials you can use and we can start the process.

The paper for printing is prepared with the mix of chemicals and let it dry. Meanwhile you can design your print, choose the elements and shapes.
When the paper is dry, you can place the elements on its surface and cover everything with a sheet of glass, pressing firmly.

The paper is exposed to the sunlight for some time and then the print needs to be developed and hanged to dry to reveal the wonderful print.

You will create several tests and 2 prints (A4 and A5 size)
